How to turn Organic Research into your personalized rank tracker By: Orit Mutznik
Tracking the position of your keywords is easy to do when you know which keywords you want to track. But what about when you don't know, or can't decide?
Here's my favorite way to figure it out: the Organic Research tool. Let's walk through it.
First, enter your site (as opposed to a competitor's) into the Organic Research tool. |
Next, click "View all organic keywords" to see all keywords your domain ranks for: |
To identify keywords that bring you revenue (commercial and transactional intent), filter by Intent, then sort by Position. Remember to also set a search volume threshold to see keywords that are most likely to bring users to your site: |
Want to know the keywords that you're on the cusp of ranking well for? Simply adjust the filtering to include keywords ranking between position 11–20 (for example): |
You can also play with the other filters and options. For example, you can use the Position Changes tab to look only at keywords that lost rank. Apply the same filters around search volume and intent, but this time sort according to keywords that dropped the most. |
Click on the gray arrow to the left of any keyword to see its monthly trend over the past year.
Find a keyword you think is important to track rank for? Check the box next to the keyword and click the blue "+ To Keyword Manager" button. |
By adding your important keywords to Keyword Manager, you can easily send the whole list to the Position Tracking Tool!
Presto! You now have an easy way to discover all sorts of keywords you should be tracking rank for.
What's more—you can run the same process for your competitors! As you don't have access to their Search Console data, this tactic allows you to track keywords that could be vital to their SEO strategy and apply them to yours.
Try it now in Organic Research → |
